Centenary Celebrations

for St Saviour’s Church

1908 - 2008

St. Saviour’s Centenary weekend, November 28th-30th 2008

The final series of events in the St. Saviour’s Centenary year took place over the week-end of November 28th-30th.  The events included a service of commemoration and thanksgiving on Friday 28th, the actual date of the original dedication of the church;  a concert and party on the Saturday evening when we were well entertained by the musical (and poetic) talents of members of our congregation and friends; Parish communion on Sunday morning when the new Dean of Worcester was guest preacher, and Sunday Club enjoyed a splendid party; and the Advent service on Sunday evening enriched by the singing of a visiting choir, Renaissance Voices.

Many thanks to all who contributed to this very memorable weekend, which proved a fitting climax to the year’s celebrations.

A Century of Parish Life”

This book chronicles the beginnings of St. Saviour’s church in 1908 and the subsequent history of the parish of St. John the Baptist with St. Saviour, Hagley, over the past hundred years.

Written by Jacky Smith, it is based on information from the parish records and the memories and photographs kindly supplied by very many people.

It gives some intriguing glimpses into life in the past century in Hagley.

The book is illustrated with many black and white photographs, and eight pages of colour.

It is available via the church office, price £5.95, and can also be obtained from the following places; Lily Blue, Happy Families, Hagley Library, and the Crown bookshop in the Ryemarket, Stourbridge.

All profits from the sale of this book will go to the church.
